How to make an iPod Dock

Posted by DIY Mike on January 5, 2009

In this video I'll show you how to build your own iPod dock out of an old pair of computer speakers. You probably have a pair of old speakers laying around but if you don't you can find them at garage sales and thrift shops on the cheap. Look for an older heavier pair. They probably have better drivers in them. You can make the enclosure as simple or complex as you want. Just make sure that the box is solid and conforms to the same (approximate) internal volume as the original enclosures. If the donor speakers have a port, then port your enclosure, if not make it air tight. Step-by-step instructions can be found here.

In this video I make a cable to connect your iPod to your home stereo. This cable was requested by a youtuber and I was happy to make it. It sounds great and blows away those cheap cables. Best of all....... I made this cable for under $10. Check out some of my other cables on my Cable Projects page and email me if you want to request a cable I haven't done yet.

Coming soon - DIY iPod Dock from Scratch

Posted by DIY Mike in the near future

The iPod dock I'm currently building is completely from scratch. This project will include a 10+10 watt stereo amplifier, a custom designed cross-over,  four hi-end drivers, and I'll install all this in a custom enclosure. Keep checking back for this project! It's going to be awesome.

Update 4/15/2009 - Amp is built, Enclosure is done and final assembly has started. I should have the video, parts list and instructions up soon. Thanks for all the emails asking about it.
